I'm back! Say hello to the new coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Pumped to be back in the league and this time will be staying a lot longer then merely one season (will probably take a lot longer then that to turn the 49ers around).

Can't begin to say how happy I am to have the Forum's leading poster back in the AY! Although I'm sure you would have loved to be in Dallas the 49ers need you more. Its great to see that San Fran helmet next to someones name on here. If you look in some of the history posts you'll see that the 49ers have a strong pedigree forged by being number 2 behind the mighty Panthers for so many years, making the playoffs frequently about 5-10 years ago. Although Frisco won't compete this year, and might be rebuilding and getting retuned next year Mr Chillari's aparrent comitment to the franchise means a long term powershift in the NFC, the likes of which the West really needs at the bottom. the niners are looking at atleast a top5 pick, being 1 game better than the worst 3 teams. The offence is set up well to run, with some quality running backs and two blocking TEs, 4point OL Stone anchors the decent line, though they could use new blood at centre. 4 WRs give plenty of options if the new coach goes for the pass though, 3 point Garcia is maturing but is not the franchise player to base the team around, if a top QB slips to the 3rd or 4th pick the 49ers might seriously consider taking the oportunity to set themselves up with a star player for the next decade. On defence the line is superb, 11th year NT Adams has plenty of company on either side of him, with enough personel to run either a 3-4 or 4-3 next year, though Adam's years are numbered. The 4 LBs are well balanced in the run game, veteran outside speedster Peterson and Veteran run stuffing ILB Ulbritch tutor the 2nd year players Moors and Smith. The starting defensive backs are top quality pass protectors, while special teams specialist rookie Heard is purely a blitzer and great tackler, though he may yet develop some protection skills befores he enters his second year. The team also features a quality kicker and punter. A great all round roster with no holes (although the 3 point QB is unusual in this league) and the potential to go anyway coach Chillari wants to! I'm already enthused about this new rivalry, week 7 next season is already in my calendar!

Norm, Would love to make it to the Superbowl next season but will settle for a winning season first. Small steps first getting this team back on track, even though as Alex mentioned, the roster is far from poor. The 4-3 defence might be the way to go as really like it with my C Bengals and will try to have the 49ers keep a 4-3 formation. Run game is a love of mine and never had two TE's on a roster so will be great to see how I can move the ball and utilise the TE's in the pass and run game. The 3* Qb is a definite worry as have never had real success with one and looks like will have to draft a QB of the future and possibly carry the 3* next season...unless a decent QB is available in free agency and have enough LP's to sign him. Let's just hope I have learned some lessons from the GA and the C advanced leagues that will make my stay at San Fran a successful one. I am in this league for the long haul and have missed the league badly since I pulled the plug at the Raiders. Will be interesting to see how we go next season but the fact that I am back in such a strong league makes it more exciting. Actually asked for the Cowboys first and Danny has confirmed they are still taken so somehow we need to get the Dallas coach on the forum. Alex, week 7 should be a cracker of a game regardless of what our standings and look forward to that game and every other game in the AY.

Sam, I am really pleased to see that you have been able to rejoin AY! Welcome back and to the NFC as well - a conference full of coaches waiting to do battle with you Sam! Good luck and enjoy your tenure at the 49ers.

Welcome back, Sam. What possessed you to defect to the NFC though?! Everyone knows the AFC's where it's at!

Not for much longer as the NFC will prove that they are the conference to beat and the AFC is just there to make up the numbers.

Just need to look at this season's interconference record to see the old stereotypes don't apply any more! ![]()

Sample size, let's give it two seasons and then look at the numbers. One things for sure this league gets harder and stronger each week.

Which is why so many people want to join. The thrill of pitting yourself against quality opposition each week is too much to ignore.

l agree, totally, l guess if you really want to win then you either leave or don't join, but l love the competition, that's what it's all about.

from what we know of the league the highest point the niners have reached is the Conference final, they lost to the panthers in the 2002 season, 8 seasons ago. So the long suffering fans must be happy to have a proven AY coach incharge and commited to the long stay. FTR another 20 credits going into Philly in the next few weeks.

you can be assured that the 49ers will have me as coach for some time, with hopefully some success along the way. Have already made a list of what I intend on doing with the roster and will be acting on that as soon as take charge. Can't wait for my first game.

Might actually bring some of those familiar 80's 49er names back to the roster.... that's if Danny would allow Montana at QB, Rice at WR with Craig at HB!

Don't forget big Tom at FB making Craig look good, and Durran Durran John Taylor, just forgot their TE he was like a wide out that guy nightmare.

Will have to dig up some team of the decade lists to remember some of the 49er names from the 80's. Would be real interesting to see Montana, Rice and Craig on the summary shot for game results.
