It was truley a bewildering game in every sense. After watching the snoozefest between Denver and Oakland on sunday nights game ( I literally dozed off...) i was treated to one of the craziest games in NFL history yesterday. As you said Mike, how the hell did the Cards lose? How do the Bears give a team 23 points, score only 3 points on offence and win?? How up 23-3 with seconds to go in the 3rd quarter on offence did things turn so ugly? What left me so annoyed was that the Bears were outplayed and completely outcoached and still won. There was no justice in this game. the BEars just made a few huge plays to swing it around. RT Oliver Ross had a brain fry when just allowing the DE to rush straight through and hit Leinart on his blindside for the fumble TD. The Bears scored on a 80yd punt return though the rookie moneyman Devin Hester. Its hard to lay the blame on one single play, but if I was Dennis green I would be giving Edgerrin james one hell of a kick up the ass for his fumble. With only 5 or so minutes to go, Cards have the ball, James has the ball stripped from urlacher that is returned to paydirt. To me , with so little tiem left, the Bears are obviously going to take gambles and go for the strip. Why on earth didn't James hold the ball with two hands cradled and keep low? Its football basics taught from a young age, so for a guy with his experience was bewildering to me to say the least. I just really feel for Denny green, he is a bloody good coach and he gave Lovie Smith a real touch up. I can understand him venting his spleen at the press conference, it would be infuriating. On the plus side, it showed what the Cards can do. i just hope they use it to spur them on for the rest of the season and not fall into a heap. I did say on here that I thought that Matt leinhart would go no.1 in the draft last year and was subsequently wrong. I couldn't believe he would slide to no. 9 to the grateful Cards. I saw him play a bit in college, and he just has leadership and cool under pressure. The kid is just a winner. He played his pants off against the best defence in the league, and his only error the TD fumble was completely not his fault. I would be really, really excited for the future finally for the Cards. I just hope managment keeps patience with HC Green, he deserves better. While on College, watch for WR Calvin Johnson in the draft next year. He is from my Georgia Tech Yellow jackets, he is 6'4, 235 lbs, great hands and is fast. Best of all he is a great leader and locker-room presence and doesn't pull a hissy fit when he is not getting the ball. He has had anotehr great season despite having a very so-so QB in Reggie Ball. I just hope he becomes a dolphin...wishful thinking!

If I remember correctly, the Lions had the chance to take Leinart, but selected Ernie Sims instead. I’m not questioning this at all, as Sims had looked handy so far this year, but I can’t help but think what might have been. Say for instance we only sign Jon Kitna in FA. Then we take Leinart in the draft & let Kitna mentor him. After all, the last USC Trojan QB to go in round 1 (who was mentored by Kitna), turned out to be pretty good. (Understatement of the year!!)

I watched my recording of the game sitting thinking, the Bears are going to win this. I did have the 27pts in fantasy football to tell me they did well so to be 20-0 down was odd. James shouldn't have lost it but he was mugged. Urlacher really put some effort in pulling that ball free. The poor running game is a different matter. As to Sims, the Lions wanted to make sure the Vikings didn't get him. Three LBs in the first round to the NFC North. They way they were talking in the commentary it was suggested Leinart over Cutler was intersting. |

With some of the comments on here, it must now be even more infuriating to be a Cards fan. After what was on the whole a good performance against the Bears, they then lose to the Raiders?!?!? That kind of sums up life as a Cardinal...... |

You wanna try being a Dolphins fan...especially one who started supporting them just after they lost Superbowl 19 when they were Superbowl regulars, and in the 20+ years since they haven't had a sniff of a Superbowl place...
