Really was a crazy week in the GB, the Rams/Lions result was a stunner. Craig Sandy was a standup coach in the old aussie BA days with one of the most ferocious defences i have ever seen. The Lions have been off the pace this season but gave a timely reminder that they still have some muscle. The upset has handed the Cowboys homefield advantage in the playoffs if they can do as expected and take down the lowly Eagles next week. The AFC had more surprises with the Ravens being held to 2 points with a drubbing in Buffalo. Unfortunately for the bengals who produced their own boilover with a an OT win over the hot Hawks, the Buffalo win all but ended their playoff aspirations. Its all set up for a classic final week in the AFC, with the final wildcard spot on the line for the Jets and Bills clash. The Steelers could produce their own bit of late season magic and take the central title if they beat the Ravens on the road. And the AFC West is a quagmire, the raiders win they win the Est, los e and they are almost certainly out. The Hawks and Chiefs clash should be a classic, I am sure Jason will be gambling heavily to produce a big win and somehow hope the raiders stumble again to take the div. A scrappy win for my Fins over the hapless Broncos, some experiments flopped miserably but i got the form strength i was after which was huge. Very impressive wins by the Cowboys and Bears, nice form line going into the playoffs. Team Salmon scored a significant win over the Vikings for wildcard homefield. Jason's Chiefs just continue to gut it out, and despite being a big ask, KC will give a good account for themsleves. With the draft season approaching and all the big battles for week 16, i for once can't wait for a fortnights time!

I know exactly what happened, I got my ass handed to me on a plate, LOL! Being serious for a minute, a few things came together to end up with that result. Firstly, in the first half I committed four turnovers which not only killed drives but directly resulted in 7 points for Detrit as they returned an interception for a TD. The Lions then scored a TD on the first possession of the 3rd Qtr to make it a two TD deficit, while all I could manage in the 3rd was one first down! 4th qtr started with a Lions FG and Warner getting benched and then it was essentially game over! By far the biggest reason for the defeat though was an excellent D GP from the Lions, which completely shut down my O, coupled with my complete underestimation of Coach Sandry's talents, I figured he was either an average coach or the team was uncoached given the Lions record, but the GP wouldn't appear to be uncoached (although S LI was called a few times, as was T SW so I'm not entirely sure on that!). Finally, I certainly didn't get much luck in as much as my BZ busters didn't come up against BZ, my KB busters didn't come up against KB, my favoured short passes always seemed to be thrown into the best D to stop them, and when they weren't a TO or dropped pass happened! So essentially the Lions did lots right and the Rams did lots wrong, from the coach downwards. Sounds stupid but I'm actually quite happy to have lost in some respects. I'd rather get a performance like that out of the way before the playoffs and it lowers the expectations of my team in my first season in charge (this is meant to be a rebuilding year in St Louis remember? I'd kind of forgotten over the last few weeks with all the talk of HFA!). Perhaps most importantly it also gives me a wake up call before the playoffs that I can't take any results for granted and I need to prepare properly for every game regardless of opponent. Oh yes, and it moves me up the draft pick list a few spots which could help me... Elsewhere some interesting results, and that AFC West battle is going down to the wire - go Chiefs!

Have to say that you are not the only one to underestimate the Lions. My first season in the GB and I was 13-2-1 and hosting the Lions in a divisional playoff game and had my ass handed to me by the tune of a 30 point defeat. Have been cautious against the Lions ever since. With your coaching pedigree, there is no way you can get away with the rebuilding talk while holding a 13-2 record. Come the playoffs and you are one of the favourites for the NFC Title and the GB Crown. If this is a rebuilding year....next year will be hell for the rest of us in the NFC and the GB as a whole.

That's right, can't wait to see how I get on with a 6* QB and two OQB RB's, given my preferred big play passing offensive style it could be a match made in heaven! Have really enjoyed having to get through a season with a 3* QB though, a very different experience for me - Detroit definitely was anyway! --Last edited by Martyn Williams on 2006-11-19 17:22:58 --
