At 8.02pm, Friday 20/4/07 my wife gave birth to a son, Marcus. He was 8 weeks early and had to be taken out via a c-section. Mum went through a rough few weeks at the end of the pregnancy and is finally able to rest a bit. At the moment mum and Marcus are fine. Mum is at home and Marcus is to be in hospital for at least another 5 weeks.

At time of birth Marcus weighed 1.4 kilos and 38cm long. Definitely a little guy. Marcus had a rough first night as needed assistance breathing but has been breathing on his own ever since. The doctors are happy with his progress at the moment but he is still in the special/intensive care nursery of the hospital.

As much as it makes me smile to see the little guy it is definitely a worry where he is at the moment. Seeing tubes sticking out of someone so small is heartbreaking but at least he appears to be coping. Fingers crossed he keeps improving and we can bring him home soon.

Will not be around as much on the forum for the coming weeks due to what is going on with Marcus so if don't hear from me as much you know why.

Marcus is doing fine at the moment. He is still in an incubator but only has the one tube hanging out of him at the moment and that is for his feedings. Marcus has taken well to milk so hopefully he will continue to progress and be able to feed without the assistance of the tube in the next week or so.

Marcus has gained weight and and is now 1495 grammes. He started at 1380 and fell 135 grammes in the first week (which was expected) and has put that back on and more. If Marcus continues his weight gain and maintains his body temperature then the incubator can be discarded and Marcus can be placed in a normal newborns bed(which is a lot easie for his mum and dad to get to him!).

Spending a lot of time at the hospital and this is the first chance been able to jump on here. Luckily I am off work at the moment and can spend time with Marcus and fingers crossed get home ready for his arrival. Thankfully the doctors are still happy with his progress and can only think that each day brings Marcus closer to home.

A belated congratulations Sam on Marcus's arrival, and great news that the little fella is doing well! Give it a few years and maybe we'll be able to get Danny to start a league only for Chillari's, Flesfader's, Williams', Salmon's etc!

I also have 2 boys (7 and 3) who are sports nuts.  They aren't sure about gridiron yet but give me time......

How about a father and son league? That would be nuts!

Finally, after 41 days in hospital Marcus made the trip home yesterday 31/05 at 12pm Sydney time.

At time of birth Marcus was 1380 grammes and 38 cm long and by the time Marcus arrived home Marcus was 2060 grammes and 43.5 cm long.

Great to finally have the family together under the one roof and not have to drive to a hospital 5-6 times a day and deal with numerous doctors and nurses as well as other parents that are all as worried as each other on how their babies are going.

Of course being home one day and Marcus had already used numerous nappies, pissed on a bed during a change, burped and farted his way through numerous meals and kept his parents awake with numerous noises during the night. Never thought Marcus was that loud but all worth it to have the little guy home with his mother and father.

Father and son league would be great. My wife is already aware of the impending NFL season and the fact that every chance I get I will be sitting Marcus in front of the TV to watch an NFL game with his dad.

Of course, Marcus will support his fathers team - the Dallas Cowboys. Shouldn't be too hard to convert him to an NFL fan and maybe one day to Gameplan.
