I have to say I'm disappointed to see Sam and Greg leave NFLGB as I'd joined the Rams for the long haul and was looking forward to seasons of rivalry to come. Given the situation now though I will see out the season and see if I can get another SB win, then quit as soon as I am out of the play offs. I must admit I'm not sure why everyone seems to prefer advanced, I like both versions of GP equally, pluses and minuses to both IMO. Anyhoo, I guess we all know the real reason Greg and Sam left before they faced my Rams this season, they knew they were up for a right whuppin' from my uber-Rams! Just out of interest are Dave, Tom and Goz still planning on staying in the league until the end of this season?

I will see to the end of the season. I only joined, just like Martyn for the long haul, because of the fantastic coaches that were there and also for the superb website. It looks like this league is going downhill fast, but I will see out the season. I too like both basic and advanced. I think it's cool to have teams in both versions where you can experiment with both.

as far as I am aware Dave has left the Dolphins as well. sad to have left the league but got myself up to 5 times which is way too many and with the website I was spreading myself too thin. now can concentrate on the AY, C and BN (with Dave). Have always liked the basic game and will always try and have an advanced and a basic team. will more then likely return to the cowboys one day....but won't be for a while yet as my sole basic team for the immediate future resides in the BN. have no doubt that it will more then likely be a chargers/rams bowl game and that wouldn't be a suprise as both your teams are in the top teams of your conferences. still think that the dolphins may have just squeaked past the chargers but would have been one hell of a game to watch. rams have been my pick all season and didn't see my cowboys challenging them as had lost my interest rapidly after greg left leaving me alone in the east again. let me know who ends up winning as would be real interested to know.

Well if Goz and I don't square off in the Super Bowl then something is seriously wrong! Sounds like you have dropped A7 as well Sam, can you confirm?

I and Tom have definately pulled out of the GB with much regret. Unfortunately i have had a few personal issues that have forced me to pull out. I have cut back my stable of games considerably as a result, although i will definately confim that the remaining leagues that Al wrote above have got me in for the long haul. I too still love basic leagues, but unfortunately it is suffering in shortage of numbers with the increasde popularity of the advanced caper. I hope i don't offend anyone, but i think for the benefit of basic leagues, those of us keen on it probably need to concentrate on our numbers. I think across so many leagues the strength of coaching has become very diluted to the detriment of basic game in general. I think it would be most in our interest to try and congregate togther in a league/s like the BS, BG or BN. I think its crucial we keep these main leagues strong for the sake of the growth of the game. I can't at the moment, but i would be very interested in the short term to joing another league if it can get enough of us in there. What do you guys think?

The new forum should help drum up interest in popular exciting leagues, and active people in quiet leagues may be tempted to join a popular one for a new challenge, whether they dropped their other teams would depend how many teams they want I suppose. I agree with Dave's sentiment, I love playing in a full league, but hate leaving a team I've invested in.

No offence taken Fles, but I think there may be some confusion as to what constitutes a "main" league. With all respect to Goz and Jay who are doing a sterling job of trying to drum up support for NFLBG, the reason I left that league was that it was virtually empty and it only seems to have recruited a couple of new coaches since I left. NFLD on the other hand is by my reckoning roughly two-thirds full with about 8 coaches joining in the past season. I really don't want to start a pointless "my league's better than yours" argument and I concede that BG with an active newsletter might have a better shot than D of filling up in the long term, but until that time I'd be a little aggrieved if coaches were herded away from D to join the BG "big league"! I hope I haven't offended Jay and Goz with this - I'd like to reiterate what a great job they're doing with BG.

Thanks Jon for your feedback. When i listed those 3 leagues, it was simply off the top of my head. Its great to hear that a league like the D is doing so well, and i am sure there are a few leagues like that floating around too. I guess i was just making the point that it would be more competitive and enjoyable if those that are really keen on basic to join up together in leagues. It wasn't meant as a my league is better than yours. lol I love the advanced leagues i am in because they are majority filled, friendly but competitive. I haven't found that so much the case in basic from my experience. I am not saying for people to go dumping there beloved teams or anything like that. I think part of the problem is that coaches are chopping and changing leagues in Basic simply because there are so low vacancy leagues and people get bored quickly but i for one would love to coach in a strong basic league. The result is a lot of unstable leagues. It would be great if most of us could play in the one league, something like the D. Sam and i have talked a fair bit on it, and as much as we loved the GB there was just too many bot teams to keep it consistantly challenging. I think for the good of the game, it would be great if us experienced coaches hooked up in the same leagues. Who is in the D Jon? --Last edited by Fles on 2007-07-20 04:05:07 --

Martyn, Yes I have pulled out of the A7. Hard decision as the college game really is interesting from both a gameplan and roster perspective. Will return one day but not for a while and considering how full the A7 is might be a while before I get back in even when I want to considering the amount of interest in the league, and the excellent newsletter (which I will sorely miss reading).

No offence taken whatsoever Jon, by me anyway.
I dont think (IMHO) that this was what Fles was getting at but WRT BG being one of the, as you ptu it Jon "big league"....it clearly isn't..and not sure why it got "singled out" from Fles's off the cuff selection, by your good self...but I reckon under the vetern leadership of Goz and my new found enthusiasm for GP and an active recruting campagin that BG could rise from the ashes (as it has done several times) and MAYBE become a Basic "big league" again. I'm not making myself out to be an experianced GP coach and that.....(i hope).....but would love to see any suggestions as to how this could happen.....I reckon I could squeeze MRS O'Mahonys purse strings tight enough to sign up for another Basic league if it were to happen...but for the moment my heart lies with BG Skins. rgds, Jay

Merely because I know BS is pretty full and know nothing of BN, but am aware that BG is still fairly empty. I don't think I was expressing myself very well, but was just using BG as an example of if you were going to encourage people to join specific leagues, how difficult it would be to decide which were the best ones to "promote". BG's forum and newsletter are obviously big plus-points, but then I'd imagine there are quite a few leagues with more active coaches who could argue that if the goal is to create a full league, they'd be the better choice to go to. If there were enough new coaches coming in to fill all leagues with a valid shout at being a "main league" then there wouldn't be a problem, but I don't see that happening. So it comes down to "how many extra active coaches is a lively forum and/or newsletter worth?" and I honestly don't know the answer to that!
Apart from me, possibly no-one you've heard of! The coaches I believe to be currently active are: AFC: Me John Timmins (reigning champ) John Gray Mark Greenshields Andrew Chadwick MJ Piney Scott Dennison Paul James Austen Hindman Anthony Edwards NFC: Dave Tidley David Colquitt Andrew Scovell Kelvin Geary Paul Joy Johnny Edwards Ben Cox I'll put a full list including available teams (and possibly with a few names corrected!) on the new site, once I've checked with a couple of people. --Last edited by Jon G on 2007-07-23 23:23:58 --

IMHO there's no reason why a newsletter can't move to another league if the person/people who make it move to!!!
