Absolutely sick as a dog....I called the perfect game, outgained Norm 459 yards to 223, but still lost the frickin' game! Now we're down to the final 4 - San Diego, Indianapolis, St Louis and Chicago...2 teams (San Diego and Chicago) who have previously won the Superbowl, 1 (St Louis) who seem to be making a habit of losing NFC Championship games (0-3 in Championship games), and Indianapolis, who are now in uncharted territory having made their first ever AFC Championship game. Should be interesting... --Last edited by MikeP on 2007-07-26 05:09:09 --

perfect game? You didn't get a TD for the first 3 quaters! lol Who cares how many yards you get if they don't help you score! ROFL.

nothing beats the bend and don't break defence! might have to drop norm a line so he can give me some tips for next season when the bengals and texans next meet.

Limiting the Colts to such low yardage and also racking up such massive yardage against such a great defence, I called about as good a game as I could've done. With a decent chunk of luck, it's probable the result would've been very different...

I may be out of order here, but this seems a harsh and unfeeling comment to throw at someone who just lost an important playoff game.

seems self evident to me, no offense intended!

It did read a bit harsh Al, but I'm sure Mike's big enough to take it on the chin. Welcome back to both leagues by the way, Bobby and your new co-coach. Hope you can stay a bit longer than last time.

That's what I thought too when I read it...but don't worry, I'll just kick your ass the next time we play in C...

Well you only lost by 2 points IIRC, so it was certainly a winable game and certainly there would have been many plays that could have given you the win, though to me the fact you doubled the Colts yards shows either you were doing somethign wrong like turning it over or he was doing somethign right, like forcing drives to stop outside the redzone. If I were in your shoes when I'd gotten over the loss I'd look at why you put up so many yards and only got FGs for the first 45 minutes and think about changing or adding lines for redzone or range or something like that. Its not a game where the team with the most offensive yards wins, and I'm surprised so many coaches seem to place so much emphasis on racking up lots of passing yards during a game, when clearly it is to the detriment of their turnover ratio etc. Not having a go, just offering painful critisism of a common offensive philosophy. (probably at the worst possible time after a 2 point playoff loss LOL).

I can understand Mike's pain. Hard to put so much into a game where its all on the line and almost double the oppositions yardage and still come up just short. You were clearly able to shove the Colts around, but the old Master with that beloved 'Bend and Don't Break' defence as Sam pointed to, was cunning enough to limit the points. GP is a wondeerful game with plenty of highs, but at times you feel like ripping your hair out! My commiserations Mike, you had a terrific season and while just falling short, you certainly have made your Texans a name for themselves. After the disappointment has subsided a little, you will be even more fired up for next season to pay out some revenge. lol Well done to Norm too. His teams find a will to win and you can never ever take the foot off the pedal against him. I do hope this gives him a bit of a cheer up during a tough time. Hopefully this win has gotten him over the 'Miami-Gate' scandal on playing up in week 16. Gathering by the horses head I found in my bed last week, maybe not. I agree with Al's point, and like with the real NFL, yardage is not a guarantee of victory. But i think the Eagle vet's comment came out a tad clumsy and knowing Al it probably didn't quite come out in the right way he intended. lol Best of luck to all the Championship Coaches. Been a terrific playoff series already! --Last edited by Fles on 2007-07-27 18:13:57 --

have to agree with everything fles said (i usually do as he always says things well) settle down a little alex i know it's true a loss in the playoffs is gut wrenching (been there done that a few times to know) and this forum is about encouragement no kicking while down though norms defence is all about bend don't break (i know through talking to him and seeing it 1st hand at the AR jaguars)so it will give u something but not too much and also i know (they wern't called the ugly boys for nothing) about trying to win games (not the stats wars) with my C cowboys (and even ay patriots) again you will see it soon in the ar against our jaguars i fully expect to lose the stat war but am hopeful of the scoring war this may give you and others something to look at and add depth to gameplan as it is not just a mathematical game (though it does have a mathematical element) it is a bit deeper than that it has a bit of soul as well

man, not a good late season for the Fins. We have now been written of the christmas list by the Colts and Texans. Going to be a hospitable AFc for us next season! At least i have got some love from Greg (thanks for the kind words Fish ), just a pity your in in the wrong conference!

Unlucky Jon. It was one of those games where I'm not sure either of us deserved to win or lose tbh! I must admit at 12-0 down I thought I'd lost it, we never threatened to score and I thought at best I'd get a lucky TD and a FG. Then suddenly my QB finally plays like the super star he should be (only for about the 3rd time all season!) and for the last 20 minutes we were unstoppable! I feel for you as you were DP'd to death a little bit (not that I play for that!), and overall your GP probably fared better than mine did. Hopefully you'll come back next season even more fired up to get those Lions to the Champ game! For my part I'll try and get your prophecy right! Oh, and I should point out Mike that of those 3 Champ game defeats the Rams have had, I was only in charge for one lol! --Last edited by Martyn Williams on 2007-07-29 00:48:02 --

SO true, guess I forgot how fragile we all become after a playoff loss, there's a period of denial there where we like to think we could have or should have won. By looking at the stats it definately looks like the Texans should have won, what I was trying to say was that there must have been something else going on other than just the offensive yards.
